Understanding the Different Types of Addiction Treatment Programs
Choosing the right addiction treatment program requires an understanding of the different types of treatment. As most clients require medical detox we include it in our listing of treatment programs. So we will be describing here:
When shopping around for a drug and alcohol rehab, you will find that some treatment centers will send you off to an independent or affiliate detox service. At A Center for Addiction Recovery, clients in need of detox will be admitted into our program and receive detox within the comforts of our own treatment facility.
Determining the Need of Medical Detox
Clients admitted for treatment at A Center for Addiction Recovery, typically have a preliminary assessment over the phone with one of our counselors. During this assessment information pertaining to drug(s) abused, duration of the abuse, the client’s medical history, and any other information the client is able to share at the time is gathered. Although in many cases we know the client will need detox, it is only after a thorough physical and mental assessment that our medical team will determine the appropriate treatment protocol, including detox.
Drug or Alcohol Detox at A Center for Addiction Recovery
A Center for Addiction Recovery provides a medically supervised safe drug and alcohol detox with comprehensive medical support. Our experienced physicians and nursing staff are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to make our client’s detox as safe and as comfortable as possible. Our drug and alcohol detox program recognizes the importance of comfort and constant support. Clients are comforted by learning how their bodies are reacting to the removal of substances from their system, and are better placed to cope with the withdrawal process when they receive supportive and sympathetic feedback. While medical detox is carefully monitored and tailored by our medical team to rid the body of toxins and address detox symptoms, our clinical staff engages detox clients in biofeedback sessions at the Serenity Lounge. This holistic approach in treating individuals struggling with addiction utilizes the combination of music, choreographed imagery, vibrations and binaural beats which induces a natural meditative state. The purpose of this biofeedback session is to bring balance and harmony to the client's life by teaching them the practice of deep-breathing and the engagement of positive emotional thoughts. When using these techniques, clients are able to establish a coherence baseline and are able to take charge of their emotional reactions. As a result, health, communication, relationships and quality of life improve. When a session is completed, clients feel a sense of wellbeing and are reenergized for the rest of the day, resulting in much better sleep at night. Utilizing biofeedback sessions during the recovery process has helped many clients make an emotional shift to a more coherent "state of ease" when certain triggers and stressors arise.
Inpatient Drug and Alcohol Rehab aka Residential Rehab
Our Residential Addiction Treatment Programs combine a range of daily therapies and activities. Each day, you will have scheduled appointments with selected members of your addiction treatment team, including your psychotherapist, medical staff, nurse, fitness teacher, yoga teacher, art therapist, acupuncturist, and other staff members who are connected to your well-being while at our facility. Inpatient Program typically last 30 days with longer duration recommended for severe cases of addiction. Every week the program shifts in response to the pace of the client’s recovery. As the client gets healthier, clearer, and brighter, the entire treatment focus adapts. For example, new activities might be introduced; therapy might intensify, (though always still paced to client comfort); and where appropriate, family members or partners might be invited to participate. As we get to know the client better, we discover more about what works for him or her.
Highlights of our Residential Addiction Treatment Programs:
Partial Hospitalization Program aka PHP
The difference between Residential Rehab Program and Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is the level of care. PHP offers the same comprehensive treatment than a Residential Program and it is meant for clients who are experiencing acute symptoms that are difficult to manage but that do not require 24-hour care.
Individuals in partial hospitalization programs attend structured programming throughout the day, three to five days a week and return home in the evenings. To ensure client safety, many of the inpatient/residential program rules apply (i.e. no phones, no shoelaces) to partial hospitalization programs.
There are many advantages to participating in a partial hospitalization program. You are worried that the program may isolate you but the opposite would be true. Many partial programs provide group therapy which would allow you to interact with other people experiencing similar problems. You would also have the opportunity to interact with psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, and other mental health practitioners. The goal of many partial hospital programs is the development of skills that help clients better manage their lives and their symptoms.
Our Intensive Outpatient Program offers group and individual services of an average of 10–12 hours a week. IOP allows the client to be able to participate in their daily affairs, such as work, and then participate in treatment at a specified time either in the morning or at the end of the day. Our IOP program encourages active participation in 12-step programs in addition to the IOP participation. IOP is an excellent treatment option for individuals who have been through residential treatment and individuals with a mild addiction problem.
Individualized detox protocols are carefully monitored and tailored to address detox symptoms. As part of our holistic approach, our detox incorporates traditional detox with biofeedback sessions.
Clients being treated in our residential program reside with us for the specific amount of days established in their individualized addiction treatment program.
Our treatment model is rooted in the belief that it is our utmost responsibility to do whatever we can to prepare our clients for life outside of treatment.
In addition to our traditional therapeutic treatments we offer holistic and alternative therapies such as: yoga, chiropractic care, medical massage, personal training and art therapy.
